WHY A NEW PROGRAM ?

We identified a gap in summer activities tailored for teenagers with special needs. Our aim with this new program is to provide a supportive environment during the summer months specifically designed for teens with special needs. We aspire to create a space where they feel a sense of belonging and purpose. Through our camp, we intend to give them a meaningful experience by integrating them into our Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program, assigning them responsibilities, and fostering their self-confidence through engagement and participation.

OUR MISSION

The mission of the CDS Summer Camp is to work in parallel with your teen’s educators from school and other services to offer a seamless transition into the summer, which will allow your teen to socially progress as they have fun doing our activities! Our CIT Inclusion Leader will maintain regular communication with parents, adapting to individual needs through personalized intervention plans, behavior monitoring, and progress updates.

PROCESS

Our CIT inclusion leader conducts assessments involving parents and the child, along with school visits, to accurately gauge the teen’s requirements. Spots are limited

Key Aspects of Our Program:

  1. Acquire practical life skills within a playful environment (e.g., making phone calls, managing finances).
  2. Enhance social aptitude through group interactions.
  3. Explore and nurture individual strengths and interests.
  4. Foster self-assurance and confidence-building.
  5. Cultivate coping mechanisms and self-regulation techniques.
  6. Encourage exploration of alternative self-regulation methods.
  7. Facilitate community engagement through collaborative activities within camp groups and the center.
